Letter, 1780 May 12, Aranjues [to] Mrs. Meredith, [Philadelphia?] / John Jay.

Jay wrote this letter to the wife of Samuel Meredith, a Philadelphia merchant and the first Treasurer of the United States, while serving as American Minister to Spain. He laments his absence from the American scene. He also apologizes for not sending along promised silks and gives a description of the Spanish town. In the second half of the letter, Jay alludes to the building of a new federal city.
